lyrics

6 PM, mid-December
I’m not as excited as I remember
‘Cause there’s no snow, it’s not even cold
But I hear them coming to my door, singing,
“Silent night, Holy night, all is calm, all is bright,”
And I wonder why they sing of the past things

“So what about that night? Yes, a baby was born
But after all this time, what does it mean anymore?
‘Cause I’m just fine, honestly, if the lights and the tree
Are all that Christmas means
So what about that night makes you sing?

9 AM, late December
The church bells ring around the corner
I walk outside and as I pass by
I hear the people join the choir, singing,
“Silent night, Holy night, shepherds quake at the sight,”
And still I wonder why they sing so joyfully

So what about that night? Yes, a baby was born
But what about his life has given joy to the world?
It may be just make-believe, or perhaps all those things are not what Christmas means
So what about that night makes them sing?

I saw a preacher out on the street
And I thought I’d ask him to kindly explain this to me
“Why after two-thousand years we still sing
Of that baby who was born
Can ya tell me if there’s more
‘Cause I’ve been wondering what Christmas really means”

Then he said, “On that holy night, to us a Savior was born
The One named Jesus Christ
Showed His great love for the world
You see He paid for our sin
When they crucified him
Then He died but now He lives!
So what about tonight?
Will you trust in Him?

Christmas Day, this December
Things have changed since last winter
There’s still no snow, but now I know
Why we sing
